Stanhope

This double bed designed by architect and designer Michael Graves for Memphis Milano in 1982 is an important piece of postmodern design. It also illustrates how Graves himself took architectural forms and aesthetics from large-scale projects to the realm of small-scale furniture design. Graves thought of everything with "Stanhope" and designed a unique piece that incorporates the bed itself, a lighting system, and nightstands. The frame can accommodate a European king-size mattress (180 cm x 210 cm, 71 "x 79"-not included) and is decorated with maple root veneer, lacquered wood, mirror, brass, glass and 20 light bulbs (EU 12V 3W). The bed has the original Memphis plaque that reads: MEMPHIS / MILAN / M. Graves / 1982 / MADE IN ITALY and is accompanied by the original authentication certificate issued by Memphis.
