Carlton is undoubtedly the most famous and iconic of all the items designed for Memphis Milano. The piece was designed by Ettore Sottsass and first presented at the historic Memphis exhibition in Milan on September 18, 1981. Carlton is a large shelving unit or partition decorated in blocks of colored plastic laminates and the famous "bacterium" pattern.
