Designer: Michael Thonet
The famous coffee chair is still considered the most successful industrial product in the world; indeed, it started the history of modern furniture. Its production is based on an entirely new technique at the time, the bending of solid wood. Another ingenious idea contributed to the sales success: Thonet was able to ship the model around the world by storing 36 disassembled chairs in a one-cubic-meter crate to be assembled on the spot. The four-foot bentwood frame features a knot on the right front leg, while the seat is made of guinea cane. Price refers to the version available for prompt delivery in black.
