Cabinet
by ClassiCon
Designer: Eileen Gray
This piece is number 12 in the now-closed edition of 25. In 1925, only two pieces were produced based on Eileen Gray's design. The first was in her apartment on rue Bonaparte in Paris and was actually used by Gray herself. The second was made for architect Henri Pacon. The cabinet is made of MDF with maple veneer and has several drawers of different sizes for storing tools and documents and has a folding shelf to provide a writing surface. Tilting or sliding drawers provide the perfect space for drafting materials and sketches, a vertical compartment provides space for paper rolls, and two smaller cabinets for storing other equipment. The "Cabinet d'Architecte" is an important example of Eileen Gray's work in that it anticipates the volumetric methodology used in the villas she designed. Starting with a simple parallelepiped, parts are cut out and moved along orthogonal axes. The cabinet is labeled as follows: EILEEN GRAY 1925/CABINET D'ARCHITECTE/ No.12/AUTHORIZED REPRODUCTION FOR LIMITED/EDITION OF 25 - BY ARAM DESIGN - LONDON/ EXCLUSIVE TO CLASSICON - MUNICH. Excellent condition.
